TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats had several season and career highs against state rival ASU, but ultimately fell to the Sun Devils 196,600 to 196,400.
“I want to give our team a lot of credit for stepping up and going to their last two events,” the head coach said. John Court. “They’re getting so close and they know it.”
Alysen fears won the all-around for the second week in a row with a 39.350, scoring a season high and two career highs. Fears and Malia Hargrove tied for first tier with two season highs of 9,900.
“There were some amazing individual artists,” Court said. “Aly Fears just crushed it.”
“As a freshman, I didn’t expect this, coming in with the difficulty I had,” the freshman said. Alysen fears. “I wasn’t sure that’s how I would compete but I am and I love it.”
To jump
Arizona started the competition on vault, earning a score of 48.875. Malia Hargrove ended the rotation with an event high of 9.825.
Uneven bars
Arizona scored 49,000 on uneven bars in the second rotation. Both Elena Deet and Bailey McCabe matched his season highs of 9.825 in the back half of the event with a freshman Alysen fears finishing it with a career high of 9.875.
Shine
The Wildcats scored their second-highest total on balance beam, finishing with a 49.175. This is their third highest beam score of their season. Sirena Linton and Jessica’s Castles led the group with a 9.850 and 9.875 with Fears and Emilie Müller just behind with 9.825s.
floor exercise
Arizona finished the game with its highest score of 49.350, beating Arizona State’s 48.950. It is Arizona’s second-highest floor exercise score of the 2022 season. Hargrove and Fears both scored 9.900, with Fears setting both a season and career high, and Hargrove setting a season record. Mueller also set a season and career high, scoring a 9.850. Caroline Herry hit his season and career highs with a 9.875.
All around
Fears and Mueller competed in the all-around for the third week in a row. Fears returned to the lead with a 39.350 and Mueller placed third with a 39.200.
